Elizabeth Veloz
My educational background is one of Business and Economics, but I have been painting and winning art contests since childhood. I am an artist who is self-taught, however for as long as I can recall, I remember being able to draw and paint.
In my paintings I explore a darker more sensual part of nature through the Intimacy of Flowers and the Exploration of Darkness in Landscapes. Flowers are often positioned to resemble human bodies and poses. Landscapes are modified to capture contrast which does not naturally occur in nature.
Every painting starts with a photograph of a landscape or flower. It is then darkened enough to create the illusion of being in two worlds. Backgrounds are often bright and light. The foregrounds, primarily in the form of trees, mountains and flowers are dark, in many cases black or grey or brown, creating contrast and drama. Many of my compositions are representations of my experiences, in particular what I see when simple objects are posed to portray sensual dances between them and light.
I have always aspired to capture nature in my own distinctive style. People who really know me say that there exists within me a mysteriously dark side that comes out through my work. I feel that through painting I can reveal everything about myself, exposing many exciting layers as an artist and person. A work of art is but a true expression of one's self.
Permanent Cosmetics
My interest in Permanent Makeup came from my own experience. When I first had my eyebrows done by a well known local Micropigmentation artist I felt there was something missing. During my training I quickly figured out what was missing were the details. That finishing touch which makes your Permanent Makeup appear more natural. In eyebrows they consist of hair strokes. In eyeliners it may be a tiny bit of shading. In lash enhancements it is the inserting of tiny dots between the eyelashes to make the lashed pop and in lips it's the use of highlights and lowlights to make them look more natural.
